Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
